Due to it geographical location it is a save stop for migrating birds who got carried away by their normal route. Helgoland is one of the places in Europe whith the highest amount of different birdspecies noted. The bird ringing station is one of the oldest worldwide, with one of the best data and more than a million bird were ringed here.
